book?

Well i know this is suppose to be blogs related to English, bus honestly i don't have a lot of time to sit down and read a book. I really want to start reading books, and everybody tells me that right before bed is a great time to start reading. In the next few weeks i would like to head to a bookstore and purchase a book. the only problem is, that i don't know what type to purchase? When i was in high school, the only types of books i would ever consider were by Stephen King or Anne Rice. I really got into the vampire/horror type books, probably cause that's what i like to watch in movies. But know a days, I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for in a book. I know i really like music so i was debating on a book written by or towards a musician or band. I'm not sure if this is what blogs are for, but does anybody have any suggestions? Maybe there is a series that's out that i could start?

Crocodile Cafe: Seattle's Icon of the Grunge Rock Era.

I decided to use Peter Blecha's Crocodile Cafe essay for my "place" article for Wed. Written for the Seattle Journal, Peter Blecha talks about a small brick building that was part restaurant, part bar and partial venue. The Croc started out as a Greek restaurant before closing down due to lack of funds. Then shortly after, a group of people decided to buy out the abandoned builiding and turned it into a cafe. Not to long after, Seattle became home of some of the biggest names in the music industry and home to the sound that was labeled as "Grunge". Although these bands did not want to be labeled and put into a genre, the reporters had to classify them in someway. Some of the most popular grunge bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Mudhoney performed at this cafe. Few years down the line, the Croc became starting points to other bands that were classified in a wide variety of genres. Then one night, sixteen years into the business, the business all of a sudden vanished. With no explaination to the employees nor the fans, the business had reached its end. According to the media, it was not a lack of people to show for these gigs, but somehow a lack of money. September 16, 2007 was the last time the building heard the sounds of music, or people for that matter.
I guess i chose this essay because for one, I enjoy music very much and for the second reason, grunge music was really got me interested in music in the first place. I can remember when i was younger, seeing all these older teenagers dressed up in ripped up pants, with flannel shirts covering up band t-shirts. Being as young as i was, i was very impressionable and of course wanted to be like that. So of course i started buy the cd's of these bands that i saw on the teenagers shirts and really started getting into it. When i started doing research on these bands it seemed funny to me that they all had members from the bands that came from the Seattle area. I remember wanting to go there so bad to see these bands and the way they live.
This article was not very informative as far as details, but it did get right to the point. I feel it could have given more details and more information about what was happening during this time. The author is obviously just giving the bare facts to give his story and leaving it open for people to fill in their comments.
